Things I've learned the hard way
06.14.05 (8:50 am) [edit]
- Sending a frog through the mail is not a good idea. It will die on the way and it will leave a residue on the envelope.
- When a woman looks at you and says, "What a big dick!" she is not necessarily affirming the size of your genitals. That's especially true if you are fully clothed and never met her before.
- "You need a f**k and I'm just the man to do it" is not a very effective pick up line.
- A knee to the groin is more painful than you might imagine.
- Penis size does matter. Especially when you are in jail and it is somebody else's penis.
- "Just because she's the sheriff's daughter" actually is a reason to be more careful.
- All in all, mailing somebody a frog does not rank among the biggest mistakes a person can make.

Tomato Soup
06.13.05 (9:39 am) [edit]
My cable TV company has just upgraded me. I now have 5000 channels. The latest channel to be added is the Tomato Soup Channel.
It seems like not so long ago when The Food Channel was the only choice for culinary viewing. There was no Dessert Channel, and no Pastry Channel. When The Soup Channel finally came on, I was glad to see something that catered to more specific needs. But finally, we have one dedicated solely to tomato soup.
Today, I watched an episode that contrasted a Norwegian tomato bisque with a creamy tomato soup from Austria. This was followed by an episode that featured a spicy tomato gazpacho, and a tangy tomato and carrot soup.
But my favorite was a tomato and basil soup that featured just a hint of citrus. You take 18 ripe Roma tomatoes, 1/4 cup of olive oil, two large diced yellow onions, a tablespoon of orange zest, finely grated, heavy cream, and fresh basil. You saute the onions in the oil until translucent. You stir in the orange zest and the peeled tomatoes, for about 20 minutes, until the tomatoes have broken down. Puree, and add cream. Add fresh basil right before serving, or chop up a small amount when you puree.
I'm so glad that my viewing choices are no longer so limited.
